Tips for using Bip&Go electronic toll payment in Portugal

Your Bip&Go electronic toll payment badge also works in car parks in Portugal! All car parks bearing the “Via Verde” logo accept payment by electronic toll payment badge. At the entrance to the car park, press the green button on the machine to indicate that you wish to pay for your parking with your Portugal electronic toll payment badge.

If you do not want to pay with your Bip&Go badge on Portuguese motorways

Don’t want to use your Bip&Go electronic toll payment badge in Portugal? Simply detach it from the windscreen and put it in the aluminium sleeve provided upon subscription.

When it is inside the sleeve, your badge will be undetectable.

How to pay for the motorway tolls in Portugal with your Bip&Go electronic toll payment badge

For free-flow motorways, indicated by the sign “Electronic tolls only”: you don’t need to do anything, as these barrierless tolls detect your badge and register your journey. You can keep driving without stopping.
For classic toll motorways, indicated by the “Via Verde” logo, payment is similar to electronic toll payment in France: you must slow down when you arrive at the toll barrier. You can take the reserved electronic toll payment lanes or the “all payment method” lanes. Please note that the reserved lanes have no barriers and your badge will not beep. Don’t worry: your journey will be recorded properly.

How can you know if your Bip&Go electronic toll payment badge works in Portugal? Take your badge and turn it over. On the large label on the back, at the bottom, you should find a white “Via-T” logo on a black background. If you find it, your badge can be used in Portugal. If not, you can only use your badge in France. You can request a new badge – the one that works in Portugal – in your Bip&Go subscriber area.
