Free-Flow Tolling at Boulay: a First in France!

At the end of March 2019, France’s very first free-flow toll system was installed at Boulay, on the A4 motorway. This innovative, forward-thinking toll system was introduced by the Sanef Group.

Say goodbye to traditional toll booths and welcome barrier-free tolling, designed to save you time and make your journey through Boulay smoother—especially during peak hours. Thanks to this detection gantry technology, there’s no need to stop anymore!

How Do You Pay the Toll if You No Longer Stop?

You have two payment options:

Now Is the Time to Get your Bip&Go Electronic Toll Badge!

The best and simplest solution is to use the Bip&Go electronic toll badge, which is automatically recognised by the Boulay free-flow toll gantry. It can also let you breeze through tolls on all French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian motorways.

It’s the ultimate time-saver, with zero hassle! Your journeys through Boulay are recorded by your Bip&Go badge and the payments are debited monthly from your bank account.

If you’d like to opt for the Bip&Go badge, a special offer is available for frequent users of the Boulay toll.
You can also choose the subscription that best suits your needs from Bip&Go’s range: the Fixed Price offer for regular travellers, or the Pay As You Go offer for occasional users.

If you already have a Bip&Go electronic toll badge, simply drive under the gantry—your current badge will be detected automatically. There’s nothing else you need to do.

What if You Don’t Have a Bip&Go Badge?

Each time you pass through the Boulay free-flow toll, both on entry and exit, your vehicle’s number plate will be scanned. You can pay online via the dedicated website or at one of the payment terminals located near the toll area.

Please note, this payment method can become inconvenient and time-consuming, especially for those who use the Boulay toll regularly.
If payment isn’t made within 72 hours of passing through the toll, you’ll receive a payment notice with the toll fee plus a €90 surcharge. If you settle within 15 days of receiving the notice, the fixed penalty is reduced to €10, in addition to the toll fee. If you haven’t paid within 70 days, you’ll receive a further increased fine.

You’ll only receive one warning letter, after your first journey through the Boulay free-flow toll, detailing the amount due and payment instructions. After that, each unpaid journey not settled within 72 hours will incur a penalty. So it’s important to regularly check the Boulay payment website or the automatic terminals in the Boulay toll car park to ensure all your payments are up to date and avoid any unpleasant surprises.

For a hassle-free experience, choose the Bip&Go electronic toll badge
